NEW CHARITY PROVIDES EDUCATION AND RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES FOR THOROUGHBRED STUDENTS AND ADVOCATES

LEXINGTON, K.Y., Oct. 7, 2013 – The co-founders of Thoroughbred Charities of America (“TCA”), Ellen and Herb Moelis are pleased to announce the formation of Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation (“TERF”), a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to support and promote equine education and research by sponsoring scholarships in veterinary medicine and supporting organizations that are educating the public in the proper care of horses.

TERF Trustees include TCA Founders Herb and Ellen Moelis, TCA Directors Amy Adkins, Kathleen Crompton, Gretchen Jackson, Jim Orsini, DVM, and TCA President Dan Rosenberg, former TCA Directors Gretchen Jackson and Betty Moran, along with Margaret and Bob Duprey, Roy Jackson, Toni Orsini, Carol Zebrowski and Lucy and Tom Zungalia. TERF is co-chaired by Herb Moelis and Dr. Jim Orsini.

"The purpose of this new foundation is to expand the concept of the TCA Endowment to provide focused funding for equine education and research,” said Herb Moelis.  Dr. Jim Orsini added, “Our trustees’ passion toward providing scholarships grew out of an emergent concern and reality with the rising debt of the next generation of caretakers for horses.  If we do not provide educational opportunities for our next generation of equine stewards, who would not ordinarily have the option to further their equine studies, we will be leaving great talent on the table.  We care deeply about leveling the playing field for all students who wish to pursue a career in bettering equine health and furthering their education.”
